Tips to Maintaining an HVAC System

Summer, sunshine, heat, and humidity are all here! In Minnesota, we’re used to this kind of weather, but we also rely on our air conditioners to keep us comfortable. Below are a few things every homeowner can do to extend the life and efficiency of their unit.

Our A/C Tip List:

A bi-yearly maintenance check-up will extend the life of both your A/C unit and your furnace. We suggest maintenance in the spring and fall just before the cooling and heating seasons. A tune-up and check will help find issues that could leave you too hot or too cold in the summer or winter. Our check-ups can also improve efficiency as well.
Change your HVAC filter on a regular basis. A clean air filter allows air to easily pass through the system, so it doesn’t work harder than necessary.
Maintain a clearance of at least 24 inches around the air conditioning unit to facilitate proper airflow. Do not store items against the outdoor unit and keep bushes trimmed away from it.
If you notice an issue, don’t wait to call for service. Continuing to operate your A/C unit could result in more extensive damage.
Use an energy efficient, programmable thermostat. With your air conditioner running less, but more efficiently, you’ll save money and prolong the life of the unit.
