Why A Fall HVAC Tune-Up Is Important

Just like other appliances, routine maintenance helps you get the most out of your investment. But why is a fall tune-up important?

Discuss your thermostat.

If your home has an older thermostat, it might not provide all the options you want. Upgrading your thermostat allows you more control over the HVAC unit since modern models are focused on customization. If you opt for one that uses Wi-Fi, you can even adjust the temperature while away from home. This could help you save money, especially during the seasons like fall when you’re dealing with fluctuating temps. Plus, an old thermostat might not be properly measuring the home temperature and humidity.

Clear drain lines and pipes.

Condensation naturally occurs in cooling units, which is why they have a drainage system to help. Most systems have a condensate drain from the furnace and coil that typically run to a drain in the floor. When that condensate drain gets clogged, it can cause water to leak in areas where it’s not supposed to be. If you aren’t monitoring the area around your furnace regularly, it may lead to mold or mildew growth in your system, which can negatively affect your indoor air quality. If the water sticks around in an outdoor unit, it could freeze during the winter and cause problems from the inside. A tech will inspect all of these parts to see if there’s an issue.

Check the coil.

Similar to the coils used on other appliances like a fridge, these should be cleaned off routinely to help the unit work better. A technician will know the right type of cleaning solution to use if it needs more than just a swipe to get the dust and debris off. Then, you won’t have to worry about accidentally messing with important HVAC parts, and that simple maintenance task will help the system last longer.

Clean and inspect the overall system.

In general, there are a lot of other parts to an HVAC unit that need a quick clean or at least an inspection. These include items like pressure switches, ignition systems, heat exchangers, and blowers. Depending on the age and location of the unit, it could be dealing with build-up of debris or dust on the interior, which takes a toll over time. Our technicians will vacuum and clean out the interior of your unit.
